SYRACUSE AND ORTIGIA

Departure from Giardini Naxos port to Syracuse (90 minutes drive), the ancient powerful city during the Greek period (734 – 212 B.c.) of the Mediterranean sea. The visit begins with an iterestin stop at the Neapolis Archaeological Park, which conserve the most important monument of the Greek and Roman age, such as the Greek theatre, the Latomia del Paradiso, the Ear of Dionysius, the Roman amphitheater.
Afterwards, the excursion heads toward Ortigia well-known for the ruins of the earliest Greek constructions, in plain sight the Temple of Apollo, but the greatest and most singular monument of Ortigia is the Cathedral of Syracuse which rises on the highest point of the peninsula and one of the most famous spots in Ortigia is the Fountain of Arethusa, a freshwater spring forming a pool with papyrus plants, situated on a wide terrace overlooking the sea.
